Our one-day comprehensive X-ray Interpretation course focuses on essential emergency radiology topics, including MSK (limb), chest, and abdominal X-ray interpretations.

This course is the perfect introduction for Foundation Year doctors working in the Emergency Department for the first time and serves as a good refresher course for Emergency Nurse Practitioners and General Practitioners working in Minor Injuries Units.

About our Emergency Radiology Course

X-ray interpretation course (hands X-ray)

What does the course cover?

The course covers the common and potentially problematic radiological presentations seen within the ED. The topics covered include:

  • Limb injury X-ray interpretation and overview of clinical fracture management
  • Immobilisation techniques for different fracture types.
  • Fracture classification systems relevant to Emergency Medicine
  • An introduction to CT brain interpretation
  • Systematic approach to chest X-ray  interpretation and identifying abnormalities

How is the course taught?

The course is delivered by senior ED Physicians, who all have experience of the common pitfalls seen on the shop floor. The lectures will be conveniently separated in body areas from ‘head to toe’.

You can join the course in-person or online. Both options allow you to ask live questions and interact with other candidates and the facilitator.
Throughout the course, there will be a mixture of lectures, interactive X-ray interpretation reviews, and quizzes.

What skills will you develop?

The course will help you develop a systematic and structured approach to X-ray interpretation with a focus on radiological investigations commonly performed in the Emergency Department.

You’ll increase your confidence in managing a variety of bony injuries often seen following trauma, in managing common fractures including methods of immobilisation. You’ll be able to communicate about X-ray findings and refer patients to other specialists more efficiently.
