Dr May Thu Hla Aye

Dr May Thu Hla Aye is an Interface Geriatrician at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and also serves as an Honorary Consultant at Princess Alexandra Hospital to support continuity of her ultrasound teaching. With extensive international experience in Point of Care Ultrasound gained in Brunei and the UK, she has become a committed advocate for embedding ultrasound into routine clinical practice.
At PAH, she has led ultrasound guided lumbar puncture projects that have enhanced doctors’ confidence and procedural success, while also contributing to FUSIC training and delivering hands on teaching in ultrasound guided IV cannulation, cardiac POCUS, and lung ultrasound. More recently, she has introduced POCUS into the frailty front door service, supporting rapid discharge decisions and timely escalation of care.
She has also recently published on the importance and use of POCUS in Gastroenterology. Alongside her service development work Dr Aye is authoring Tips and Tricks for POCUS and conducting research into the challenges faced by beginners in ultrasound, with the aim of shaping practical and accessible training resources for clinicians.
