Joint & Soft Tissues Ultrasound Course
Ultrasound is an extremely valuable tool for evaluating joint and soft tissue injuries, including strains or sprains of muscles, tears in ligaments and tendons, fluid in joints, fractures and dislocations.

Our Joint & Soft Tissues Ultrasound Course is designed to provide emergency doctors with a comprehensive understanding of ultrasound imaging techniques for joint and soft tissue evaluation. Other clinicians, such as physiotherapists, sports medicine physicians, and general practitioners working in minor injuries units, will also find the course useful.
Next Course Date: 5th June 2023
Fee: ÂŁ350
Location: Online, or Face-to-face at St Olav’s Court, 25 Lower Road, Canada Water, London, SE16 2XB

About our Joint & Soft Tissues Ultrasound Course

What does the Joint & Soft Tissues Ultrasound Course cover?
You will learn how to use ultrasound to diagnose a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, dislocations, tendonitis, bursitis, and more.
Topics covered include:
- Optimising ultrasound for joint and soft tissue scanning
- Recognition of soft tissue anatomy with ultrasound. Special features of tendons and ligaments with ultrasound (anisotrophy)
- Pathological appearances of soft tissues, including infection and injury
- Ultrasound of common foot and ankle problems, ankle sprains, achilles tendon problems and plantar fasciitis
- Ultrasound and the knee joint, collateral ligament injury and joint fluid
- Ultrasound and the shoulder, dislocation, fractures and fluid
- Ultrasound for paediatric fractures

How is the Joint & Soft Tissues Ultrasound Course taught?
Our course is led by clinicians who have extensive experience in the management of musculoskeletal disorders in busy emergency departments and physiotherapy practice.
The course is a combination of theoretical lectures and practical hands-on sessions. During the practical sessions, you will have the opportunity to practice your skills on live models and simulators with pathologies. This will help you develop confidence in your abilities and improve your skills in joint and soft tissue ultrasound imaging.

What skills will you develop by the end of the course?
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Handle an ultrasound machine in the context of joint and soft tissue injuries
- Identify injury patterns in soft tissues and joints
- Assess joints for dislocation and confirm reduction
- Identify fluid in joints and use ultrasound to guide aspiration
- Use ultrasound to detect fractures and confirm reduction after manipulation
- Assess inflamed skin for cellulitis, an abscess or necrotising fasciitis
